January is National Mentoring Month

January 20, 2015

January is National Mentoring Month and Mentor Dubuque is celebrating mentoring all month long.

We want to take a moment first to say “thank you” to each and every one of our mentors, past and present. The commitment and dedication our mentors have to the program and their mentees is amazing.

National Mentoring Month is a time for us to raise awareness of the importance of mentoring – the importance for mentees, mentors and our community. Mentoring has so many positive outcomes. For example, mentored youth are 52 percent less likely to skip school and 46 percent less likely to use illegal drugs.

At Mentor Dubuque, we hear all the time from the mentors who went into their match wanting to make a difference, wanting to help a child, but then discovering, too, the positive impact mentoring had on them.

Mentoring has that positive impact in so many more than just the child.

Mentor Dubuque is always looking for caring adults – adults who are willing to give just four to five short hours a month to a child.

If you want to make a difference, or if you want to have the opportunity to feel like a kid again, join us!

The application and interview process is quick and painless, and our staff will take the time match you with a child who is the perfect fit for you.

Make National Mentoring month your time to make a difference.  Learn more by visiting the National Mentoring Month Website and to see how you can get involved.
