Hillcrest and the First Lady Help Homeless Veterans
November 23, 2015
Homeless Veterans are a touchy subject, socially and politically these days. The FLOTUS, Michele Obama, and Hillcrest Family services are working to help solve this epidemic. In a recent video , Mrs. Obama called on landlords to open up vacant units to homeless veterans. As encouragement to landlords, the First Lady mentioned programs such as HUD VASH and Supportive Services for Veteran Families that provide financial assistance to homeless veterans. Hillcrest Family Services has an SSVF program, which is funded through grants from the Veteran’s Administration. “According to HUD, on a single night in January 2014, there were 49,993 homeless veterans across America. The Hillcrest Family Services SSVF program, and the First Lady, is working to end veteran homelessness.
The Hillcrest SSVF program started in February 2015. Since that time, we have served more than 35 veteran households. We know the need is great. If you or someone you know is a veteran and is experience homelessness, please get in touch with us.
