An Adoption Story

May 26, 2015

Hillcrest Family Services is known for serving over 26,000 people in the 30+ different programs we offer today but what most don’t know, is that our foundation roots from young women making sacrifices for the best interest of their unborn children since 1896.

To say I enjoy my job is an understatement. I LOVE my job. Though it can be bittersweet at times, connecting families who were once strangers is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had. I have met some incredible birth parent(s) and hopeful adoptive parents in my 10 years at Hillcrest.

On April 1st, I received a call from one of our local hospitals telling me that a woman had just delivered not one, but two beautiful babies and had no intentions of taking the children home, as she did not feel she could offer them what they deserved. She wished to find the perfect family to adopt. She did not take her decision lightly and chose a family that she felt would love her children just as she did.

Making that call that came next is one of my favorite parts of the job. I called the prospective adoptive mom, asked her to take a seat before I proceeded, and shared with her that a birth mother was interested in meeting her and her husband. You could hear the excitement, the fear, the relief and the shock all in her tone of voice. Her life was changed forever, all with a simple phone call. I can’t imagine the emotions one must feel being on the receiving end of one of my phone calls.

The adoptive couple had the amazing opportunity to meet their children’s birth mother and get to know her and her two older children. It is something special to be able to tell your children about their biological mother and what a blessing she is to them. Talk about an admirable, selfless gift she gave them. These two families will forever be joined by their unconditional love for these two kids, the luckiest kids.View More: http://photos.pass.us/seymourflashphotography_myles_aria
